SECO 2009 IECC Residential Training

This course provides residential energy code training and gives compliance measures for the State of Texas. The relationship and differences between 2009 IECC and 2009 IRC Chapter 11 are detailed, as both are in effect in Texas. Overviews of mandatory requirements are provided, along with prescriptive, alternative and simulated performance compliance paths.

Compliance with the Residential 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC)

This program will provide training on how to conduct plan reviews and field inspections to determine compliance with the residential 2009 IECC. The course will utilize the compliance inspection checklists developed by PNNL to assist states in determining if they meet 90% compliance with the code requirements. The course will cover plan review, foundation, framing, and insulation inspections, and has a series of questions and answers that expand upon the course materials.

Air Sealing

This course describes how air movement in buildings can affect overall energy performance and comfort. Thermal bypasses which can occur in many parts of the building envelope and methods to limit these leakage areas through good construction practices is described. Proper air sealing of all components of the building envelope, including attics, walls, crawl spaces, basements and raised floors is presented. How air flows through various types of insulation and proper inspection techniques are described.

Blower Doors

This course presents diagnostic tools and techniques to test for air leakage in residential buildings. The course describes the terminology used in measuring airflow and presents pressurization principles that will provide the foundation for conducting blower door testing. Blower door components are explained, various measurement tools discussed, and the procedures to conduct a blower door test in the field are described in detail.
